CV

Thomas Thiede (*1967) studied Art History, Philosophy and Theater Studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Also he studied Restoration/Conservation at the Art Academy of Dresden. Last, but not least he studied Painting at the Art Academy of Düsseldorf.
He currently lives and works in Fischbachau and Hamburg.

In his artistic work, Thomas Thiede tries to create a position in a contingent and complex present. This gives rise to a variety of questions that form the basis for his drawings and installations. He often seeks collaboration with other artists and thinkers. In 2008 he initiated the international artist network Collaboration_, since 2017 he has been working in an intensive artistic dialogue with the writer and filmmaker Alexander Kluge, and together with the philosopher Christian Schüle he reflects on contemporary issues.

He was invited for artist residency programs in Leipzig, Bristol and Helsinki. His practice and projects have been supported with grants and fellowships by several institutions for example the State of Bavaria, City of Munich, Goethe Institut (Bratislava, Shanghai, Helsinki), Federkiel Foundation, Hypo-Cultural Foundation, IFA-Institut for Foreign Relations.
