ABOUT PAINTING | 2005

The artist is playing football in a wooden box. The inside of the box is covered by a
fabric with a typical English pattern and the floor is covered with a purple paint.
The idea for this artwork is based on the structure of some paintings by Francis Bacon.
An aspect of Bacon´s work is the relationship between a figure and a space in a painting.
Like a painting, Thiede built a box with a moving figure in it. The figure is playing with a
ball as the opponent. The creation of a constellation like a game symbolizes the varied
idea of a game as a basic form of living.
